iMovie 2, Final Cut, and Quicktime 5 info
MacMike writes "You have probably already found out but I thought I would let you know what I found out out iMovie 2.0 that is coming out shortly.
After talking to some of the Apple Engineers over the last couple of days I have found out more then I had ever hoped for..."
(continued - click Read More below)"iMovie 2.0 is being developed all in house. It will be OS X Native as well. Final Cut 1.2.5 that is coming out has some really interesting new features that are not yet public. He kind of hinted at a speed up which I took to mean Multiprocessor aware.
Final Cut 2.0 will be 100% OS X and will feature QuickTime 5.0 and support MPEG-2 and or MPEG-4.
Another note on MPEG stuff. Apple is really pushing MPEG-2 and have my not [???] if MPEG-4 accomplishes the same thing. What the engineer said was look for QuickTime 5.0 with MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 around Macworld in January. If you are on the Beta team we should be expecting a 5.0 beta in the next few months.
Apple is also working on a collaboration server application and clients. They are of course building it around QuickTime but pulled it out of the QuickTime Player and decided to make a stand alone client instead. He said look for it in 2001. Of course this may never see the light of day.
On the iMovie 2.0 note. I guess there are not a lot of changes and they tried to make it as simple as possible with out making it too Final Cut like. iMovie 2.0 will not be free as of right now. But it will be included with all Fire Wire computers. He would not pinpoint a date but I look for it to be announced very soon. Maybe at WWDC.
