MacRumors 2011 Redesign

newdesign1

This morning we've launched a long awaited MacRumors redesign as well as a number of under-the-hood improvements. It may take some time for the new design to propagate completely, so if you aren't seeing it, please be patient.

If you have any specific issues with the new design, please email us any bugs reports and we'll try to address them as quickly as possible. Here are some of the new features and changes:

Full RSS Feeds - All existing RSS subscribers have been automatically upgraded to full content feeds. If for some reason you prefer the truncated feed, we are continuing to offer that at this url.
Fixed or Fluid - The default view for the site is now a fixed-width design. For those who prefer a fluid (variable) width design, you can turn it On or Off. If you change your mind later, the links for those settings are at the bottom of this page.
Page Load Times - Pages will load faster and the site will be able to handle more traffic.
Content Changes - The content of the MacRumors front page will remain the same. As always, it will highlight the most significant iOS and Mac news and rumors. Page 2 has been retired and has evolved into a Mac Blog, and our iPhone Blog will expand to cover iOS and iPad topics.

But...yea, my 27" has alot of white space now, even with FF only taking up 60% of my screen normally. I miss the wider MR...even using a % value instead of pixel width would be nice.

Looks Great and little contrained, wouldn't mind 20-25% increase. Gotta fill my 27in Cinema Display!!

Its nice, but even on my 20" screen i have big white borders each side, it feels like its been designed for non widescreen displays?

Folks, as we noted in the article you presumably read before posting in this thread, you can toggle between fixed and fluid page widths at the bottom of the front page. ;)

Yes, bring back the voting

The votes are the first thing I look at because it gives me an idea if the article is generally market supported or not, and really, that's the bottom line.

Even when I read something that seems positive, a largely negative rating will help me realize that, for example, some great new service has hidden charges.

It's like taking "likes" away from Facebook. You can rarely find a site without such a feature anymore. What would Amazon be without "helpful/not helpful"? Talk about going backwards in social media. I'm hoping it's just a temporary thing in the transition.
