The third week of Apple's "Get Stuff Done" Mac App Store promotion began today, dropping prices on a new set of apps. During the first week of the promotion Apple discounted several task management apps, and last week, several organizational apps went on sale.

Holy crap when the hell did 1Password become so expensive? I remember picking it up in one of the first MacHeist bundles for $45, which included Pixelmator and a bunch of other decent apps. Even the non-promo version of 1Password wasn't THAT expensive.

I dont quite understand why people will pay that much for it, especially given there are a number of free ones now.

No iWork?

One would think Apple might discount Apple's own "get stuff done" apps...

Great example of human psychology. "If it's more expensive, it must be better." You've been conditioned well, my friend.
Except that AgileBits provides support for the product which won't go away because developer(s) lost interest. Plus 1Password is the only product that covers all the platforms I need.

I don't have a problem buying a product I like. I didn't like LastPass and I love 1Password.

At least in regards to free software (not free as in free beer but in free speech) it is superior to proprietary software like 1Password, as you can study the source-code to check no one's screwing with you and stealing or selling your data.
Yes, I can't wait to review source code
Especially cryptography - because we are all so knowledgeable in that area!

But please don't mix both cases right away, because 1Password is not the best choice in the global scale.
It's not the best case for you.

1Password is even better now with iCloud syncing. So much better than the dropbox syncing. Very easy to keep everything in sync; I couldn't imagine using a different password solution.

Ill stick with my SplashID password app. Cheaper, and works well

Perhaps people don't want to rely on free apps for their sensitive data?

1Password is phenomenal. I've had it since a bundle and have bought upgrades. It is extremely useful. At that price it is a steal. And the iOS companion app for iPhone and iPad that syncs via dropbox is very handy to have when you are traveling or otherwise mobile.
