Just check the 9to5Toys page, they post sites that have sales on iPad Pros all the time.

I think it's a little different with the S7. They do the BOGO sales to increase initial demand for the product whereas the iPad Pro's frequent minimum $100 off sales seem to indicate the product was priced too high to begin with.
Apple has to realize that it has lost some of its magic. It can't just overcharge for a product without corresponding value to the consumer.

Maybe because it has a touch screen, Retina display, weighs less, more portable, runs iOS instead? That enough?
That's not a convincing argument to replace a computer for it.

I see the 12.7" iPad Pro as being for professional digital artists in an office environment and not for home users (except perhaps the extremely niche market of rich digital artists that work from home!) but here's the problem:

Professionals need professional (local) backup and storage capabilities for their work and I just can't see iOS and iCloud fulfilling those needs. The locked down nature of iOS (which might work well for home use) and lack of desktop-oriented organisation and file management tools is another factor.

It's fine if Apple wants the iPad to be a home-use toy or for light use only (email etc) but for serious professional environments iOS isn't well suited. This is where Microsoft's Surface, or more specifically a hybrid OS, has an edge. You can use local shared drives and install whatever backup (and other) software you need and the OS isn't locked down.
