Google is currently promoting a free three-month trial of YouTube Red, its ad-free video service offering subscribers uninterrupted music, background app play, and offline access to YouTube-hosted content.

In addition to allowing users to test out the personalized stations via the new YouTube Music mobile app, the trial provides access to original programming produced by YouTube creators as well as the full range of YouTube Kids channels.

A free Google Play Music account is also included as an extra perk, offering access to an extensive catalog of streamed music and unlimited storage for uploading their existing music library.

After the free trial concludes, subscribers pay $9.99 per month. Users can cancel their YouTube Red trial and full membership at any time. It's also worth noting that if users cancel their Google Play Music subscription they lose access to YouTube Red and no longer qualify for the free trial.

The limited time offer is open to U.S. residents only and ends July 4.

(Thanks, Nick!)

I'm afraid I'm all subscriptioned out. My husband and I really need to sit down and take stock of all the subscriptions we have and pare them down. The only reason we haven't yet is poop keeps happening and we are just too exhausted to deal with it all. These things creep up on you and really sneak away at the budget. I don't even know at this point if we have a subscription to Red. I think one of us ended up with a free trial subscription with the purchase of one of our Androids. I guess we will find out soon enough.

Same place i'm in, I chose to keep Google Music because of great streaming bitrate, no silly DJ stations, and YouTube Red/no ads is included I find I have started watching more documentary and interesting live news feeds , plays on everything I own. I added Tunein Premium for $7.99/month because of unlimited Audio Books. I'm dropping Spotify, Audible, SiriusXM, Amazon Prime and Apple Music. So I have everyting I need for under $20/month Cutting the cord is next challenge but the Content providers clearly are winning that battle. Stealing or whatever one calls it isn't an option I'm interested in.

Which YouTube app do you use?

The trial sounds good, but I would have no intention of continuing to paid subscription.... Anyway USA only so no use.

THIS.

I love supporting good content and putting my money where my mouth is, however I'm always wary of subscriptions as it's easy to spend more on something than you intended to.

If just for things you lose interest in or don't notice that eventually a competitor is cheaper and/or better.

Subscriptions promote laziness and companies are rarely there to exhaust themselves on value when they know that laziness and the hectic of people's lives is what keeps them loyal the best.

I don't even think it's always with bad intentions, but it is the nature of things that you try your hardest when you have to play all your cards just like your competitors.

I love YouTube Red. I don't mind the subscription because I use Google Play Music and I'm aware of what I pay for. Plus it's better than any third party app I've found. That's just me though.

I simply use a 3rd party YouTube client to avoid ads & enable background app play. No need to pay Google $10/mo.
