Apple has inked a deal for a docuseries called "Dear..." that profiles famous people using an "inventive and cinematic approach" that involves letters written by people whose lives the celebrities have touched, Apple announced today.

dearappletvshow
The 10-episode series, which is set to debut in the spring, will feature Oprah Winfrey, Gloria Steinem, Spike Lee, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Yara Shahidi, Stevie Wonder, Aly Raisman, Misty Copeland, Big Bird, and more.

The show was inspired by Apple's "Dear Apple" marketing campaign, which saw Apple Watch users read letters sharing how the device has changed their lives. It was created by R.J. Cutler, known for "If I Stay, "The War Room," "American High," and "The September Issue."

Tim Cooks obsession with celebrities (from the 80s and 90s) is absolutely... pedestrian.
Where did you get this “Tim Cook obsession with celebrities” talking point?

I’ve seen it quite a number of times around here, and I’d be interested to know what’s behind the spread of it. What does it even mean? o_O ?

It just seems like a really weird thing for MR posters to be obsessed about. I can’t quite figure you guys out, and as obsessions go, it seems to be rather... pedestrian ?‍♂️

PS Leave Big Bird alone!! ?

btw he’s from the 60s, not the 80s or 90s

Yes, what do people with the biggest egos need more of? Bigger egos!. We know by now, with all that leaks, many of these celebrities, behind closed doors, in private, hold very low views of people they feel beneath them, including fans. Let Us Now Praise Famous Men, indeed.

I am apparently just on a very different wavelength from whoever is green-lighting new appleTV+ projects. They have yet to announce a single thing that I’d want to see. Their content seems like the anti-HBO.

I think the risk Is these celebrities feel the need to elevate any perceived struggle in their life story beyond reality. these days it seems every person that has made it has this weird compulsion to flag their humble (or perceived humble, or made up humble) origins, or somehow they wouldnt be worthy. Maybe it’s some kind of weird misplaced guilt over their success, or a defence mechanism against the Twitter sewer, but I’m over it.

On Apple TV+ though, it seems an endless list of these kinds of shows in the works. Once the free 12months is over, I doubt I will renew. I went though FAM, See etc very quickly, and TBH haven’t really gotten into any of its other shows. And apart from the Foundation series (and I fear that will be ruined), everything that gets announced seems Very Public Television. I won’t pay for that.
Not really following you on that first paragraph, but if you’re not going to get $5/month worth of value from the channel, you should absolutely cancel after your free trial. A couple can spend $50 on a night at the movies; others would rather have a year of Apple TV+ for that $50.

There’s no reason to think ATV+ will appeal to everyone; some will love it, others neutral and some will absolutely hate, loathe and despise it ?‍♂️

Did anyone expect anything different? I know I didn’t.

Apple has not produced anything so far that excites me. Will give it time though, they have the financial resources to throw at it. If you are making 260 billion a year, who wouldn’t?
