Today at Apple Sessions in Seattle and San Francisco Bay Areas Canceled Due to Coronavirus

Apple has canceled all of its Today at Apple sessions in Apple retail locations in Seattle and the San Francisco Bay Area, two of the places in the United States that are seeing some of the worst coronavirus outbreaks.

Searching for Today at Apple sessions in the SF Bay Area or around Seattle provides results that say there are currently no classes available. Apple has also canceled all Field Trip programs, which allowed teachers to take students to Apple Stores.

Apple sent out notices to stores in these areas asking them to cancel all sessions from March 8 to March 29, according to an Apple retail source that spoke with MacRumors. Apple has also canceled Today at Apple sessions in Italy.

In addition to canceling Today at Apple sessions, Apple has ordered extra cleanings of display products throughout the day, and the number of chairs at the Genius Bar and cubes in the Forum area have been reduced to add additional space between customers.

In areas with severe coronavirus outbreaks in Italy, South Korea, and China, Apple has closed stores entirely, which is still an option if the outbreak in the United States grows worse. Right now, it appears that Today at Apple sessions have only been canceled in Washington and the SF Bay Area, but these shutdowns could also spread to other stores if additional areas see significant coronavirus infections.

I'm worried that Apple, having little cash on hand and operating on razor-thin margins, may not be able to survive this virus. Hold strong, Mr. Cook!

(Okay, where's the "sarcasm" button? I just know someone's gonna think I'm serious...)

This is like canceling an event for flu season. I'm about ready to ask my doctor to inject corona directly into my bloodstream so I can show everyone it's all hype. If you are 80+ years old or have a serious heart condition, stage 4 cancer, or other condition in which your life hangs in the balance - be fearful. Everyone else, relax. When was the last time you got the flu and said "welp, this could be it, I had a decent run. Honey, give the kids my love".

The media hype on this has not only caused panic, but has costed the economy trillions. The sooner we all get this and recover, the sooner we can get back to normal. Hopefully we can learn from this one and not let it happen again. I wish someone would put the media in check, but they've grown too powerful.

So you’re saying that if you have the flu, you’d just go on with your normal day-to-day and let others get sick.

But then again, this is not the flu, it’s a new virus, which may be more contagious (certainly looks that way), for which there’s no vaccine, but, luckily, you believe it’s a virus incapable of mutating in any way, so it’s only the old & sick who will die and who really cares about them anyway.

You’re quite the human being.

Oh sure, most of us are not at risk of dying. I suppose you need the capacity to care about other people to to understand why people are concerned about this virus. If you don't understand, you likely will never understand.

The idea that "media hype" is the cause of the economic disruptions is laughable from any perspective. Factories and events are being affected because of expert recommendations and best practices. The people who make these decisions don't spend their days obsessing over cable news commentary, like some Reality TV President of the USA.
Well said. The industry that I work in is making some serious plans to try and continue to work, assuming we get a certain percentage of cases, and prevent spread within the workplace. It’s no joke. And it’s no hoax.
To put it bluntly, it’s a cold you may die from. It’s not as simplistic as the flu. People get vaccinated for flu. They can’t with this.

Totally the same as influenza. I mean, Italy quarantines 1/4 of their population every year, about the same time that South Korea sends the military to sanitize their streets.

Americans are so egotistical - "it's a hoax" "its not big deal" - but not smart enough to look at South Korea and Italy and realize it's about to happen in the USA! At least SK has more hospital beds per capita than the US.
