Apple Maps to Directly Display COVID-19 Testing Locations

Apple Maps will soon directly display COVID-19 testing locations alongside information specific to the site.

Apple today launched an online portal for healthcare providers, labs, or other businesses, to register as COVID-19 testing locations. The ‌Apple Maps‌ team will then review the application, and upon approval the location will appear in ‌Apple Maps‌. Although the process is similar to the ‌Apple Maps‌ Connect portal normally used by businesses to add information to ‌Apple Maps‌, this new service includes information specific to COVID-19 testing sites.

Testing locations will appear with a red medical glyph icon and a unique "COVID-19 Testing Site" card. ‌Apple Maps‌ will display the place name, associated healthcare provider, contact number and website, as well as information about the type of testing location. Apple is also asking applicants to state whether the testing location will require a doctor's referral or a scheduled appointment.

Apple does not say exactly how long it will be before testing locations will begin to appear in Maps, but assures that it is working quickly to verify and add as many testing locations as possible. The feature appears to be international.

Apple and Google yesterday announced a partnership on opt-in COVID-19 contact tracing technology for iPhone and Android smartphones.

With my past experiences with Apple Maps, there's no way I'm trusting it with anything important like finding a testing site. Too many poor experiences.

Do you think other countries (particularly Asia) are actually testing with any regularity?
South Korea tested 100,000 people a day with rapid results tests. They had their first confirmed case the same day the US did. Their children are back at school. 4 months into the pandemic few people in the US can even get a test, and many places the results are taking upwards of 10 days.

Testing is still somewhat overrated. We are in quarantine. You should be at home, interacting with no one besides your household. The knowledge that you have COVID-19 wouldn't really change what you should be doing anyway since there is no real treatment.
The entirety of the medical and epidemiology professions would disagree with you. Testing is critical to understanding the extent and pattern of spread, as well as the degree of population immunity from past exposure. This cannot end without widespread testing.

If only you could just get tested as easily. My coworker has a lung decease and has been waiting over a week now to get a call back. By that time she could have been as well dead already.

My sister is a teacher and one of her colleagues was also waiting to be tested and a week later they called back and were like oooops we took you off the list by mistake. He ended up having corona.

it seems like winning the lottery to be chosen to get tested.

We have drive thru testing here, but you need a code that is only valid for that particular date and provided by your doctor in advance. So one day that queue was so long, my sister couldn’t get tested that day and had to go all the way back to the doctor, waiting among potentially sick people AGAIN to get another code to try her luck again.
