As much as people hate some of the shows, I gotta hand it to Apple for trying to continue producing content for Apple TV+ instead of simply buying an existing catalog of content, which would be the easy way out.

I am not saying it won’t succeed and I am actually hoping it would eventually succeed. My point is based on competing subscription services and their offerings. “Why subscribe to one more TV service, that too a politically correct one. I already have Disney for my family TV requirements”. is what most people will think. A couple of break out hits is a minimum requirement for people to consider subscribing.
AppleTV+ isn’t The Family Channel. There’s violence and swearing and scary stuff I’d never play around the family.

I’m not sure that I get what you mean by politically correct. If you want racism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia and other discrimination, I’m glad to confirm that this isn’t the service for you.

It’s not that they chose to add what appears to you as political correctness. It’s the absence of normalized discrimination that somehow appears strange to you.

How are they shooting all of this stuff in the age of COVID-19 shelter in place, social distancing, and mask wearing?
Since this is being released in less than a month, they wrapped production long ago, probably before any COVID-19 hit the U.S. Hollywood just went back to production with a range of distancing measures taken for each dept of production. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/business/story/2020-06-12/hollywood-reopening-rules-productions-covid-19-pandemic%3f_amp=true

They need to make something like Sherlock or GOT. Something that creates lot of buzz. Else Apple TV+ is just not going to work. With Netflix on one side and Disney plus on the other. The sad challenge that Apple TV+ faces is that good shows are not enough. Very good shows are still not enough. They need mega hit shows with crazy fan followings. And one is not enough. They need a 2 of these before people start taking this seriously.
I’d only starting hearing people talk about Game of Thrones somewhere into the second season, maybe later. I only picked up Breaking Bad by the time season 2 was wrapping up and it turned out to be one of my favourite shows. In an era of streaming, hits tend to take off well into their production. By the time they have a couple of seasons, people start binging on the back episodes, start telling their friends about this hidden gem and boom!

I can see a few potential shows like that already on AppleTV+. For All Mankind has all the ingredients. A compelling storyline, incredible acting, high production value and an open ended story that can go on for several seasons.

Hits only very rarely were hits from the first episodes. In fact, I really can’t think of one. Black Mirror sat as a complete unknown with a small subculture fan base for years before Netflix decided to release new episodes and push it. Now, it’s the Black Mirror. AppleTV+ is 6 months old. Give it a minute.

I must be odd because I only care about original content. All the old stuff I either own, have seen already (and once was enough) or didn‘t care about then, don‘t care about now. In this regard, Apple TV+ is really quite good, actually, and probably even the best bang for the buck.
