I've been thinking about getting 1Password Families. I have a license for the Mac and iOS app that's grandfathered, but the Mac app is pretty out of date and doesn't work with Safari anymore or support dark mode, and I'd like to be able to keep certain passwords updated with my wife who is really bad about keeping things updated in her 1Password. It would be nice to be able to admin a shared vault and then setup some vaults for our kids as they get older. I worry about my wife not being able to access things if something were to happen to me. I just hate signing up for yet another service. I mean, for crying out loud, Paste is charging me yearly just to access my clipboard, even if it is only $10/yr. I like keeping a tidy budget.
I hear you. I was in the same boat, with grandfathered apps and not wanting to do the subscription. What finally tipped it for me was the need to assist my elderly parents. My father had a brain incident and we spent a TON of time trying to decipher his password "code" sheet and resetting passwords. I finally got the family subscription and created a shared vault for my mom to create/update all of their account information in and gave access to my parents, myself, and my brother. Now either of us can help my mom when she needs something and I still have my family stuff separately. You can take a little of sting about a subscription away by taking advantage of the offer above, and also buying a $125 gift card for $99. https://1password.com/giftcards/

They didn't have a free trial when I changed my account to a subscription, but I emailed them and they gave me a big savings on the first year of my subscription. Their support has always been top-notch in my experience.

Lastly, to anyone with aging parents, I HIGHLY recommend you have some form of password "hand-off" planned. The world has become so digital that being able to access online resources is almost a necessity.
