I use Qi chargers almost exclusively. I rarely plug in my device. No MagSafe needed.
In my car, I use a suction-cup base, ratcheting holder that securely holds my phone without obstructing the screen in any way. FAR more secure than MagSafe. Although MagSafe would be (slightly) easier to pop the phone on and off.
To each his/her own I guess. I far prefer simply placing the iP on to a MagSafe magnet, rather than ratcheting it in and out of a holder every time. And the Magsafe also charges without needing to find and plug in a cable.
Effortlessly using MagSafe at my home office and auto locations has meant that I have never once plugged in the iPhone 13 Pro. The iP stays charged enough that I do not even bother with charging it at night, it just sits on the nightstand next to my bed. It would be easy enough to add a cheap MagSafe charger there too, but it has proven unnecessary.
But Magsafe is Qi. I think the Magsafe idea was to make it easier and 'foolproof' to get the iPhone centered on the charger pad. I have had, in spite of my best intentions and desire, have had a near dead iPhone in the morning because it wasn't on its 'sweat spot' and incapable of being charged. Even after it chimes that it IS being charged. It's a mystery how that happens. So if Magsafe makes it easier for people to charge their devices, it has a purpose. And one can accessorize their Magsafe pucks. I got a marble stand from 12south that the puck sits snugly in and it adds some weight to keep the puck from being stuck on the iPhone.
I am aware that MagSafe is Qi.
And I agree, I like the positive connection thing, although I never had that issue once I hear the charging "ping". I bought a couple of magnetic floating combo stands (for iPhone, AirPods & Watch), and the phone always slid off. I assume that more expensive options had a stronger magnet, but at that point, why spend more when MUCH cheaper drop-in options were available (and I already had a reliable experience with them).
I guess I just don't like the puck. I hate to need two hands to grab my phone in the morning; I don't want the charger to come with the phone when I grab it.
In a car, the magnet would have to be EXTREMELY strong to hold the device securely, especially in the event of a crash. I really don't want yet another sliver of steel and glass flying into my family's face. A cheap, secure option works fine.
So really it's that I find MagSafe on the iPhone gimmicky, but Apple is good at making gimmicks somewhat useful for some people.
I just don't see ME using it; not the "wallet" (too easy to lose), not the puck (two-hand operation, bigger than a plug), not the car holder (not secure enough), not the home docks (too expensive for decent magnets).
Ultimately, I think MagSafe is simply a precursor for a port-less iPhone, and we're getting softened up ahead of time.

Yeah, the 'Wallet' seems a joke to me. I mean, if you want to lose your cards, and potentially have them zapped, go ahead.
Yes, MagSafe on the iPhone did seem like an odd feature, but, and maybe it's my puck, but having it not charge even after getting the ping is frustrating when it happens, but I get it on my Apple Watch too, and more frequently. 'How can it ping and show it's charging, and NOT CHARGE!?!?' :mad:??♂️ But my nightstand, and desk have so many things on them that having a tail could clean everything off the top of them. :D:D:D:cool:
