Apple Seeds Second Beta of tvOS 17.1 to Developers

Apple today seeded the second beta of an upcoming tvOS 17.1 to developers for testing purposes, with the beta coming a week after the launch of the first tvOS 17.1 beta.

Apple TV 2022 Feature Blue
Registered developers are able to download the tvOS 17 update by opting in to the beta through the Settings app on the Apple TV. A registered developer account is required.

tvOS updates are often minor in scale compared to other operating system updates, focusing primarily on bug fixes and smaller improvements rather than notable outward-facing changes. tvOS 17.1 adds a new favoriting option to the Music app on the ‌Apple TV‌.

Apple shares some information on tvOS releases in its tvOS support document, which is updated after each tvOS launch, but Apple does not provide notes during beta testing.

Though we don't often know what's new in tvOS betas, we let MacRumors readers know when new updates are available so those who are developers can download new software upon release.

Wonder if they realized that Apple TV 4K - WiFi can't be configured with Apple Configurator 2 because there's no way to get it on your network prior to the remote pairing screen.

I have heard rumors that when 17.1 comes out, the Enhance Dialog feature might work with OG HomePods. This would be fantastic, though I'll believe it when i see it. I love my OG HomePods, but do have trouble with dialog often when watching my Apple TV 4k. I"ve been looking at getting some 2nd gen HomePods from Apple's Refurb store, but may wait until 17.1 comes out before I do. Anybody tried this with the 17.1 Beta?

Perhaps they fix the preview on HomeKit cameras on cellular connection. On WiFi it is ok. On cellular I must wait forty seconds…
And AirPods behave strange. When I put my earphones to the case, playing is stopped and I must press stop and play on remote.

tvOS 17.1 Beta 1 fixed a MAJOR issue with the TV app that has been around for years, but it never really made headlines as it only affected a small group of users.

When looking at the library section of the TV app, people who own over 2,000+ movies (there is no magic number... just some number over 2,000), would stop seeing their library update.

You could still watch your movies, and going to a movie listing, it would show you owned it. If you got far enough in the Apple Support hierarchy, Apple would tell you they're aware of the issue, and recommend you use the iTunes Movies and iTunes TV Shows apps, instead of the TV app. You could also use third party apps, like the Roku Apple TV app, and it'd be unaffected.

If you reset your Apple TV box, or buy a new one, none of your owned movies/TV shows would populate the library in the TV app, saying that you've never purchased any movies or TV shows.

As of tvOS 17.1 Beta 1, this long-standing bug has now been fixed.
