Apple Releases macOS Sequoia 15.3 With Genmoji

Apple today released macOS Sequoia 15.3, the third major update to the ‌macOS Sequoia‌ operating system that launched in September. ‌macOS Sequoia‌ 15.3 comes six weeks after the launch of macOS Sequoia 15.2.

macOS Sequoia Genmoji Feature
Mac users can download the ‌‌‌macOS Sequoia‌‌‌ update through the Software Update section of System Settings. It is available for free on all Macs able to run macOS 15. Apple has also released macOS 14.7.3 and macOS 13.7.3 with security fixes for older Macs.

‌macOS Sequoia‌ brings Genmoji to Macs that support Apple Intelligence, which means it's now possible to create custom emoji characters using the Messages app.

The update also removes Notification summaries for news and entertainment apps to prevent misleading ‌Apple Intelligence‌ headline summaries. Apple's release notes for the update are below.

This update introduces Genmoji, powered by Apple Intelligence, and also includes other enhancements, bug fixes, and security updates for your Mac.
- Genmoji creation in Messages and other apps
- Calculator repeats the last mathematical operation when you click the equals sign again
- Easily manage settings for notification summaries from the Lock Screen (Mac with Apple silicon)
- Updated style for summarized notifications better distinguishes them from other notifications by using italicized text as well as the glyph (Mac with Apple silicon)
- Notification summaries for News & Entertainment apps are temporarily unavailable, and users who opt-in will see them again when the feature becomes available (Mac with Apple silicon)
Some features may not be available for all regions, or on all Apple devices.

Genmoji is one of those things that you use a few times, find it a little cute, then forget about it later.

Genmoji is a real game changer in AI. It's revolutionary, way beyond what other generative models are capable of. Apple users get to enjoy a cutting edge feature Windows (and Android) users can only dream of!

Thank goodness I can finally upgrade and be able to use genmoji on my production Mac. My workflow has been severely hampered these many months not having them available.

This the same build as RC?
yeah same build 24D60

also this coming from https://developer.apple.com/news/releases/ now

iOS 18.3 (22D63)
iPadOS 18.3 (22D63)
iPadOS 17.7.4 (21H414)
macOS 15.3 (24D60)
tvOS 18.3 (22K557)
visionOS 2.3 (22N896)
watchOS 11.3 (22S555)

also not listed there are

audioOS 18.3 (22K557)
macOS 14.7.3 (23H417)
macOS 13.7.3 (22H417)

so most are the same as the rcs but ios 18.3, ipados 18.3 and watchos 11.3 have different builds

For sequoia there is a ipsw: https://updates.cdn-apple.com/2025WinterFCS/fullrestores/072-08269/7CAAB9F7-E970-428D-8764-4CD7BCD105CD/UniversalMac_15.3_24D60_Restore.ipsw

new macos full installers are as follows

15.3 build 24D60: https://swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/11/60/072-08251-A_VJ2TWIZ7CM/mrkdsdl45umr07vwe27n8hfvubidmxgcbk/InstallAssistant.pkg

14.7.3 build 23H417: https://swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/43/40/072-61299-A_Y6TZ03D5E8/dpzudbub2uj7lqy3cko50k4moqsu2lq5ui/InstallAssistant.pkg

13.7.3 build 22H417: https://swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/14/61/072-61270-A_NBOSNJCOJ7/by1ws0ryjhu2n9sn89pzeutirzkmx78mm5/InstallAssistant.pkg

Note on how to verify macos builds for the InstallAssistant.pkg link

at end of link replace the g with a m and then download the InstallAssistant.pkm file like this (i use sequoia one as example):

https://swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/11/60/072-08251-A_VJ2TWIZ7CM/mrkdsdl45umr07vwe27n8hfvubidmxgcbk/InstallAssistant.pkm

open InstallAssistant.pkm with textedit and you see this

...version="24.3.60"...

how to read this build is second number 0,1,2,3,... is A,B,C,D, ...

so the 3 is D and the build is 24D60

Note for developers on how to verify macos beta builds for the InstallAssistant.pkg link

Unless it is a rc there will also be a fourth number so in the case of sequoia 15.3 beta 3 for example you see this in the InstallAssistant.pkm file

...version="24.3.5055.2"...

again the second number 0,1,2,3,... is A,B,C,D,... and fourth number 1,2,3,... is a,b,c,...

so second number 3 is D and fourth number 2 is b so build is 24D5055b

People who aren't into Emoji are missing the clear benefit. As Genmoji proves itself over the next version or two, we won't need to have a keyboard with hundreds (thousands?) of Emoji and we won't have that semi-annual "new emoji release!" because emojis will be generated on the fly, based on the conversation and suited specifically to every need.

TLDR; the end of Emoji keyboard is nigh.
I don’t think so.
Most people who I know have a selection of emojis they frequently use, they aren’t searching through the hundreds of different emojis to find them.
Typing in a text prompt would get very old after a while.
Also emojis on the regular keyboard are cross platform.
