Apple Raises iCloud+ Prices in Three Countries

Apple recently raised prices for its iCloud+ plans in Brazil, Chile, and Peru, according to a support document updated last Thursday.

The price increases in Brazil were first reported by 9to5Mac, and we subsequently confirmed that Chile and Peru were also affected.

Throughout 2024, Apple raised prices for some or all iCloud+ storage plans in at least 10 other countries, including Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Turkey, Pakistan, Nigeria, Egypt, Tanzania, and the Philippines.

So far, other countries like the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. have avoided iCloud+ price increases.

iCloud is one of the worst things about Apple right now:
- Only available service of its kind for years.
- Automatically installed.
- Impossible to remove completely.
- Traps you with almost useless free trial.
- Sends you spam to convince you to buy, disguised as system alerts.
- Features like live photos are clearly made to only be backed-up properly via iCloud.
- USB backup has been kept really bad to make iCloud look like the only acceptable backup.
- Storage plans haven't scaled as iPhone storage did.
- Now this.

I worked in a shop that only repairs Apple stuff, you wouldn't believe how many people from 50 years old and up came in worried about the alerts that terrorized them because the storage was over. It's the anti-virus strategy, 100% anti-consumer.
Many of the cheap tricks Apple uses are clearly against EU rules and will surely be fought with regulation in here, more than a decade too late. Meanwhile, Apple has scammed its own customers for so much money and many of them will stay trapped.

The elephant in the room... the 5GB base storage you get for free. The reason I think Apple will never increase the base storage you get for free isn't necessarily for the obvious fact more people will pay because the treshold is so low and they need more storage. I think their strategy is that they want as many people as possible entering their credit card to pay for the storage, because having that entered under your Apple ID lowers the treshold for App Store purchases.

200GB to 2TB… the largest rip off for most people.
I just upgraded 10 minutes ago after months of deliberation. I had to move all my videos out of Photos onto my Mac because my family plan use of 200GB was getting razor tight. We hit the limit a few times!

**** apple for not giving users more choice. I don't need 2TB, but I would like 500GB option. Thankfully I have 20% off iTunes gift cards loaded in my account so i'm actually paying $8 a month.

50GB is meant for app settings storage. it doesn't make sense that Apple should give you 200GB for life. Apple doesn't run a charity.
I corrected my post because it's 5GB. And no Apple doesn't run a charity, but 5GB of base storage isn't even enough for the most basic things, which ruins the experience imo. So giving users 15 or 20GB would improve it so much and btw, I'm not saying that has to be given for free as in they could add that cost to the iPhone itself. Because while Apple doesn't charge a monthly fee for the 5GB of "free" storage, that cost is taken into account in the price of the iPhone. Just like iOS updates are. So they could do the same for 15/20GB of storage
