Apple's iPhone 16 models include a new Camera Control button (located on the lower right-hand side when holding the phone in portrait mode), and the latest iOS 18.2 software update adds a handy new piece of functionality to it.

iPhone users now have the option to slow down the double-click speed of Camera Control. This means you can increase the duration in which two consecutive clicks are registered as a double-click, which could be useful if you've had difficulty launching the Camera in this way.

The following steps show you how it's done.

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Accessibility.
  3. Under the "Physical And Motor" section, tap Camera Control.
  4. Scroll down to Double Click Speed, and change the Default to either Slow or Slower.

That's all there is to it – the change will take place immediately. In Settings ➝ Camera ➝ Camera Control, if you have the Launch Camera option set to Double Click, you should now find it easier to register a double click to launch the Camera app.

Require Screen On

In iOS 18.2, Apple also added a new Camera Control toggle in Settings ➝ Display & Brightness. The new toggle is called Require Screen On. When enabled, this setting requires that your ‌iPhone‌ screen is illuminated before a press of the Camera Control button will open the Camera app or a compatible third-party camera app. It's a handy option if you find yourself pressing the button accidentally.
